It’s officially summer!! And you know what I love about this season? Blockbuster movies.

So far, I’ve seen Star Trek on IMAX. But It didn’t seem like I was watching on an IMAX screen. It was way too small compare to the other IMAX theaters I’ve been to. Other than that, I also saw Night At The Museum 2 and Up! both at Rave Motion Pictures. The best movie theater here in Las Vegas.

All films were enjoyable. But my absolute fave from the three has to be Up! It was funny, touching, artistic, and overall, it’s a heartfelt film with a great message. Viewers from any age can get something out of it. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, go check it out. And I suggest you watch it in Digital 3-D because it will look a hundred times better and livelier. Though I think if you live in the UK, you won’t be able to see it in theaters until October. Do you guys have Digital 3-D there?

Anyways, here’s a picture of me outside the theater waiting for the showtime of Up! (Sorry about the large size). The assigned theater for our schedule wasn’t 17. It was 16. We were about half an hour early. We could’ve gone inside the theater but decided to chill outside the lounge area for a little while. And when we finally went inside the theater, we were the only ones there. Typical.

The halls of the theater…that primary concession stand is barely used. People buy their snacks in the front/main stand. And if the picture looks dark and bit too small, I apologize again. The original photo was way too huge and this was the best size for the blog.

I’m also looking forward to seeing Transformers 2, Ice Age 3 and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince once they are released in theaters. Gosh…this will cost me to lose all the cash I’ve earned from the sidelines I took during the beginning of the year. But then again, in the end it’s usually worth it especially if the movie delivers its full potential. Good thing most of the movies I want to see have a two week interval between them.

On the day I watch Transformers 2, I might do a little “A Day In The Life” documentary about it. I’ve been looking through the thread of the same name on Dougiefied and it looks like a fun project. Hopefully, my day doesn’t bore you guys. xD

So until then…

Living during the age where gossips get published in a quick instant, many of you probably already saw this picture of Miley Cyrus wearing a bikini while vacationing with her family at the Bahamas.

Soon after this photo was published, many critics commented on the young starlet’s body and called her fat. They call that fat?! I think I’ve lost my faith in society. If you’re skinny, they call you anorexic. When you’re fat, they call you obese. And when your body is healthy, they still criticize you. I’m in no way a Miley fanatic. But seriously! To call her fat when her body is very healthy for her age is just messed up. No wonder young girls never gain confidence in their own skin. Because no matter what their weight or body shape is, certain people will still say something negative about it.

Since I’m striving to live up and stay true to my promise, here I am again making another entry. I’m not quite sure what it’s going to be about. But I guess I’ll be able to find the topic while writing.

It’s another typical day in the boring life of Det. I wake up, get ready, eat, study, computer, TV, music, do some errands, chores. Told you my life is boring. There’s too much limitations on being a teenager. Especially if your parents are like mine. I always have to get consent from both of them every single time. And it’s not always a unanimous vote. My mother is more lenient than my father even though my father isn’t that strict either. He just tends to be a little protective sometimes. And trust me, it’s highly annoying. When I hit legal age, I’ll try and be more independent and take more responsibility for myself….FREEDOM!!

That’s why I’m finishing up my high school course as soon as possible. Once I’m done with it, I’ll be able to search for a part-time job, apply at the College of Southern Nevada and spend more time away from home. Many of you might say that once I get a job and go to college, my opinion will change. But I doubt it. As long as my job has a good hourly pay, is in a good environment and doesn’t involve disgusting tasks like cleaning public toilets, then that should do just find.

My dad tells me that I should be an executive. That career includes travelling, working at the office, negotiating, and getting a good amount of cash depending on what company you work for. It seems like it would work for me. I like being out and about. I enjoy going around places and being busy approximately seventy percent of the time. But due to the economic crisis right now, I don’t think it would be a good career choice.

Anyways, I have time to make up my mind. The two careers on my list at the moment is be a CPA and an independent musician. Let’s see if either one works out.

This blog thing isn’t quite new to my eyes. I’ve had my fair share of writing on other blog servers like Livejournal, Blogger, Myspace, Friendster. But I never really gave my full devotion to spend at least 5 minutes everyday to write on those. On some days, if I’m not lazy, I post new entries. Majority of the time, I just don’t bother. I might as well stick a giant note in front of my eyes that tells me to blog/write/post every single day. In fact, I should just do that for goals that I need to accomplish for the day since I tend to be a total procrastinator.

The reason why I decided to make another blog despite my laziness is because….is because….uh….to be honest, there’s no particular reason why I set up a new one. I guess reading the wordpress blogs of people like James (jimjamming), Renate (dougielee), Ida (judders) and Katie has influenced me to give this another shot. Maybe on this site, I’ll be able to break my terrible habit. And since my writing course suggests that I write a journal, maybe this can help me break my writer’s block, make me get new ideas, and help me improve my writing skills.

To kick things off, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Deseret. But to most people, I’m better known as Det. That’s been my nickname since as far as I could remember. It sort of stuck with me over the course of years. So even until now, I use it. People, especially my guy friends, say it sounds cool. I can’t seem to understand what’s so cool about it though. It sounds like the word “debt” or “death”. Either way both words don’t have a good meaning.

Other than my unusual nickname, the most important thing people should know about me is the fact that I’m music obsessed. It’s not a teenage phase. All my life, I’ve devoted a lot of time to it. My mom forced me to take singing lessons and piano lessons when I was about 6. Back then, I hated going to music class every Tuesday after school. My music teacher will always tell me to sing this song and that song. Sing the “oohs”, “ahs”, and “lalas”. And even do those weird vocalizations like “me…yo ho ho ho ho.” I always thought to myself, “how is this going to help me?” But then I learned that it really does warm up your voice when you’re singing. Try it for yourself, you’ll see that as you go along, your voice will sound fuller.

As I grew older I realized that those things my teacher taught me actually helped me understand how music works. When I entered 6th grade. I chose choir as my school elective. I started in the regular group. And half way through the school year, my teacher placed me in Advanced choir. We performed in school concerts. I sang. I smiled. I even rapped the “Concert Etiquette Rap”. I thought it was pretty lame. But many people took the time to compliment me right after our show. Even the school namesake who was about 75 at that time said I did well. It was quite flattering, yet a bit awkward. Though I can’t help but wonder if they were lying to me.

A month before I turned 13, I told my dad that I wanted to get my first guitar and teach myself how to play. He gave me a guitar—actually he gave me two. One electric, one acoustic—during Christmastime. And that’s when my perspective in music change. It gave me that…epiphany. That’s when I found out that this is what I’ve been wanting to do all along. Through the process, I learned to use my ear and figure out notes. I learned what sounds bad and what doesn’t. I learned to listen to other people’s advice and constructive criticism. I learned about new bands and new genres. I grew musically. I found one of my life’s purpose.

It’s been almost four years since that day. But even until now, I still think of music as the number one reason why I’m living. It sounds quite dramatic but it’s true. I may not be THE best ever. But I have plenty of time to improve and find what kind of artist I really am.

To simplify my “about me” section and avoid getting you guys bored, I’m going to list things down about myself.

1. I live in Vegas.

2. I’m 16…turning 17 in September.

3. I was born and raised in the Philippines but moved to the US when I was 9.

4. I’m homeschooled.

5. I love pets.

Whoa! Time flew by so quickly while writing this blog. It’s already 12:18 AM Pacific Time. I must go and call it a day. I will continue blogging tomorrow…if my habit doesn’t kick in again. Let’s just hope it doesnt. Until then, good night everyone. Good morning depending on where you live.
